Jord
- Music from the
Swedish Torne Valley
With a
richly textured sound formed by the interweaving of several
voices, each in their own melody, Jord lifts the Torne Valley folk
music tradition to a new level. With
new and traditional material Jord creates an entirely unique musical
world where song in Meänkieli, the Torne Valley Finnish language,
strengthens the timeless magic.
Jord released their debut CD, ”Väylän virrassa-In
the Flow of the River”, in 2002 on Concerts Sweden’s record
label Caprice Records. In October 2005, their second CD, ”Mailmale-Out
in the World”, was very well received by the public and the
media. Jord’s music is born out of an identity that is both Swedish
and Finnish, an identity historically marked by the Laestadian
religion and the Swedish authority’s oppression of the Torne Valley
Finnish language. Add to this a measure of world music, jazz and
balladry
and you come close to the sound and feeling of Jord’s music.
